Roles and Responsibility

watch?v=lFHk6sw1gzI is a link to a fitting video. In the Roles and Responsibility unit we took tow poems that had a similar meaning. One of these titled “Paper Matches” a young girl narrates it and is noticing that roles of males and female are different. She doesn’t like it and feels that she is being used, just like a paper match. The other poem “St. George” was similar in meaning. In myth St. George was supposed to have slain a mighty dragon making himself a hero. In this story a girl and a dragon are best friends, but a brave knight comes along one day and kills the dragon. The girl is sad at this and despises the knight for it going against traditional roles. We also read the story, “Everyone Talks Loudly In Chinatown” about a young Chinese girl who was stuck in a world of tradition, but longed to live a modern life. Against her parents will she started dating a white boy. All these stories dealt with people going against traditional values and moving into more modern ideas, which was kind of annoying seeing as all the issues seemed petty, to me anyway. This unit was alright, but defiantly my least favorite of them all. Here is a link to a relate arcticle. This is a comment.

Values and Goals

watch?v=EHwoRFe70jk is a part of the movie The Miracle Worker. In the Values and Goals there were many things that I learned. It awakened a realization that the world I live in has lost most of its moral values. I discovered that to be one who cares about morals is one who is rarely found now in our generation. The story that we read about Helen Keller was amazing. I wouldn’t have believed it possible that one with so many troubles could overcome in such a wonderful way. I enjoyed it much!  The story that we read about poverty was very touching as we read of one woman’s desperate struggle with circumstances beyond her control. I couldn’t help but feel for her! I thought the poem “The World Is A Beautiful Place” was very striking. It sung an ancient chorus that is not realized enough by our generation. That is past all the fun and excitement of the moment past all the fun and joy we are still humans and still have an appointment with death. Our panel discussion was ok, but in my opinion some of the questions went overboard. After it is all said and done I enjoyed this unit that we did! Here is a discussion on morals. This is a comment.

Looking Back and Looking Forwards

watch?v=tNGGvGth6ds&fmt=18 is the trailler for the movie To Kill A Mockingbird. In the unit Looking Back and Looking Forwards, as a class, we read and discussed the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This book gave us all so much into a past world that was not so very long ago. The book explores the racial issue found in the United States that led to much conflict between the black and white peoples. The story was fascinating because it was told from the innocent eyes of a little child who narrated what she saw, not what she understood. The novel was completely captivating as it told many stories of the prejudice that many people had in days past. Scout and Jem are two little childre3n growing up in Alabama with their lawyer daddy Atticus. Atticus exposes the children to a horrible world of unfairness when he takes on a case where he must defend a black man against a white mans word.

I thought that this story was very well written and was so powerful because its storyline was so sad. One couldn’t help feeling sorry for those who were hurt mentally, physically and emotionally by the cruelty of others. I learned a lot about what I would do in situations like it by trying to read myself into the story. I really enjoyed the Looking Back and Looking Forward unit! Reccollection of Childhood

watch?v=6h7KG_Ni-DgHere is a funny video about a curious child. In this ELA 20 unit about reflecting on the past it has really made me think about my own childhood. It has been neat to see how, really, it is hard to trust our memories when we have become so different with time. All the things we have done in childhood seem so far away because everything we used to do then we no longer do. I like the story “Back to Wolf Willow” because it made this point clear. Then when we wrote are own essay’s it brought it down home and you could actually see in your own life how things are very different from childhood. It was a really great unit I enjoyed it. This is an article about one person who decided to go back home: Going Back Home. This is a link to a comment.

Oct 21 Wonder and Imagination

watch?v=VLBsAPZ2DDE is a video about childhood experiences! In the Wonder and Imagination in Childhood unit I learnt the meaning of innocence of youth! Watching those grades ¾ kids read out the Screaming Millie poem with no shame was quite something thing to see. I hope nobody every used my youthful innocence to get me to do stupid stuff (sadly this is not the case lol)! I remember once when I was a kid my sister got me to take pictures with pretty little flowers everywhere because it was so cute. After doing the study on fairy tails, I was kind of glad Winnie the Pooh was my favorite show growing up. Those fairy tails are scary! Summing it all up, what I got most from this unit was that kids don’t really consider what they are doing, they just do it if it is right for them. ELA 20 October 6 Being A Kid

Here is a funny video about being a kid
 watch?v=qp9-vNjJcfI

When I reflect back on being a kid it is very funny to see everything I was then and now everything that I have become. I can still see the little boy I used to be just care free worried about nothing but play. One of my favorite summer pastimes was making sandcastle in a little sand pile in the yard. I enjoyed it very much… then. You couldn’t put me in a sandbox now for anything (well maybe if I had my phone). Things have become so different it doesn’t even seem like the same person. Being a kid I didn’t really appreciate the fact that i’d have to grow up it was just a life was life attidude back then. Now, however, i can look back and appreciate everything that I was back then .

After reading the stories “Penny In The Dust” and “The Rink” I was brought back to my childhood and remembered various people from my past who I admired and help me a lot in life. Some of these people include grandma and grandpa (both past on), my mom, dad and siblings. I realize now looking back what an awesome family life I was blessed with as a child! Reading the story “How to do Battle with Parents” left me discouraged and wondering why anyone would treat there parents like that! Finally, the two poems we read “The Piano” and “Warren Pryor” made me think of all the times I was a spoiled brat as a kid. I could really relate to “Warren Pryor” because like his parents, mine were farmers living on a poor farmers income during some of the worst years of their lives. However, in spite of all that they gave everything they had to there kids to lift them higher in life. I realized more after reader these poems of what my parents did for us kids and I was discouraged from being “ungrateful brats” like the kids in the stories.
